About Us
The Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center (ESAC) is a collaborative partnership between the Inyo National Forest (who administers the Center's operations) and a 501(c) 3 nonprofit 'Friends of' organization who's collective mission is to advise and educate the public on avalanche conditions in the backcountry of the Eastern Sierra.
We rely heavily on the support of the Inyo National Forest, Inyo and Mono counties, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, the Town of Mammoth Lakes, and various local businesses to help fund the avalanche forecaster’s salary and overall Center operations.
ESAC has been in operation since 2005, and is at the forefront of avalanche forecasting in the nation. If you would like to know more about us, or the work we do, please feel free to contact our avalanche forecaster or members of our board through the links on those pages.
