Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Left Rock Creek pack station at 0630, sunny with temps in upper 30's and no breeze, easy skinning on corn for half a mile into the large east chute of Pointless Peak. Switched to booting up in crampons due to softness of snow with ski pen 2-10cm; boot pen 5-40cm for entirety of chute. Climbing old avy debris (approx a week) made for better footing. At approx 11400', encountered sizzling frozen venier, mostly on northern side of chute. Hollow sounds and footing over convexities with knee-deep penetration (40cm) lead me to climbing the rock formations on southern edge of chute and by-passing small cornice at top-out at 12,100'. Drop-in at noon with temps easily 50 deg, skied through venier for approx 1000' that created sheets of sliding "glass" about 1-2" deep and 12" wide. Fist-size roller balls for the rest of the descent, but the corn was wonderful. In all actuality, my choice to climb and ski the chute on this day was a poor one due to temps and my slow pace.
