Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Dug a pit off the San Joaquin Ridge in open trees on a NE facing 30 degree slope.  Really warm snow surface with heavy sticky snow and roller balls.  A 10 cm wind slab sits above 50cm of recent storm snow, which all lies above a series of crusts and faceted, easily erodable snow.  Compression test showed resistent planar results on the upper 10cm wind slab, in the middle of the storm snow, and on the 82cm crust layer.  Extended column test showed initiation on those layers, but no propgation.
