Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Noticed whumphing while snowshoeing up a treed gully towards the road. Snow pits in an open area with northeast aspect at about 9900ft showed 50cm of consolidating snow from last week on top of 30cm of facets and sugar snow from earlier in the season, both layers about fist strength. Depending on location, column tests showed either CT1 or CT11 with a Q2 fracture at 30cm, one extended column test showed ETCP11.

Temps were below freezing the night before, 28*F in the early morning warming to about 35*F. Air was still, sky was clear with high altitude cirrus.
