Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured along ridge to south of Cardinal Pk drainage (from red lake trailhead)- strong winds on ridge in several spots, but very little transport. Snow did not warm. NE Chute off 13000' ridge of Cardinal (the main big one) was combo smooth wind board (chalky at best, very firm at worst) with stringers of softer wind compacted snow. In canyon, snow in sun had warmed and was corn from about 11,000 to 8000 ft. Below that was mush - just enough low snow to ski back to road with a couple sections of taking off planks to walk over rocks. On Split, St. Jean looks in, Notch looks cliffy in a couple spots in the middle/upper. Road is dry to trailhead. (Also hit Williamson on Friday; snow line appx 7500 on N faces, crappy mush to 8500 - getting establish in N. Frk Bairs canyon was a slog; but upper was corn, chalky wind blown in chute and corn on summit plateau; bottom might improve if it gets cold enough- but kinda rough right now, creek is flowing, low waterfall exposed)
