southern reports

just to get some talk going among us southerners.
been out twice, kissing resorts goodbye for the season.
piƱos was great on 2-7, catching rare fresh powder on the tail of the storm. skied the gentle (to 25 degree) NW slopes, where i triggered a small pine marten avalanche out of a snow-laden tree.
mt. san jacinto on 2-13. we summited from the tram and wished we hadn't--ideal corn skiing all day until 4 pm, when it crusted immediately. slopes to 30 degrees on jacinto's SE aspect took lots of snowshoe, ski and even foot traffic and appeared quite stable, although didn't dig a pit. about 6-7 feet of snow--great place to ski when it has it.
