Thanks to Zach Schneider for helping Scott Quirsfeld and I replace and reset the Gus' Pasture beacon park back up today. In doing so, however, we either created, or discovered some issues with the system - namely with the ability for the remote unit to consistently turn on and off the actual beacons themselves.

With (limited) success, we were able to get the control unit in the Pelican Case to turn on and off beacon #5, but not any of the others without moving then entire unit closer to the beacons themselves, which clearly isn't an option for the general user.

We are working with Ortovox on this issue, as before we changed the batteries, things seemed to be working (better). As we know more or have a solution, we will post it here. In the meantime, if you do want to use the Gus' Pasture park, here are a few tips, to at least try...

  1. Turn the control unit to the beacon you want to turn on (#5 seemed to work the best).
  2. Press the 'On' button.
  3. Check your beacon to see if you hear a signal. If so, go get it. If not, rotate the unit a bit either direction to see if you can trigger the beacon to turn on.
  4. After searching for the beacon, turn the switch to the off position.
  5. Rotate the switch back to the position of the beacon that is turned on
  6. Press the 'Off' button.
  7. Rotate the switch back to the off position.

It seems that you have to essentially reset the control unit by turning the switch back to the 'Off' position before turning the beacons...

We apologize for this. It's a frustrating problem that we spent about four hours on this AM, and still could not solve. As soon as things are working better, we'll let you know.

GUS' PASTURE BEACON PARK DOWN!

Ok, well after talking to Ortovox some, it was determined that there must be something really wrong with this unit. So, we're going to be pulling the unit from the mountain and sending it back to Ortovox.

The good news is that we had already ordered the second unit for use at the Welcome Center, and that is in the process of being shipped to us. As soon as that one arrives, we will be re-installing that unit at the Gus' Pasture location.

Please stay tuned!
