Went up to Mammoth Rock with a Level I course on January 17.
Dug a few pits on E to NE aspects and the test results were very consistent in a pit and from pit to pit. Especially so since most of these were done by people just starting to learn the process.
There was about 105cm total depth with about 25cm of new snow form last weeks storm.
Below the new snow is a melt freeze crust of variable 1-3 cm thickness.
There was considerable near crust faceting around this crust.
Shovel Compression test consistently failed between 10 and 17 in this layer.
On a 30 degree slope a Rutschblock failed at 6 and on a 36 degree slope failed at 4.
Could be interesting with more load on this.
