I toured from Tobacco Flat Rd. up to the shoulder of Mt. Aggie today to see if strong SW winds were building wind slabs.
There was plenty of evidence of blowing snow throughout the day. Snow plumes were visible from 395 above Bloody Mountain and on the shoulder of Laurel and McGee.
The blowing snow was primarily composed of small faceted grains (.5 to 1mm).
On E and NE terrain on Mono Jim and Mt. Morrison, wind driven facets tumbled to the valley floor rather than drifting in steep start zones.
Wind deposits formed primarily on lower angle and concave terrain features. These drifts were dense, but not cohesive. The facets remained loose.
