Had a short ski touring program scheduled today so stayed conservative and enjoyed a few laps in the sheltered trees above Twin Lakes. It should come as no surprise to anyone looking out the window, or god forbid trying to drive in town right now that it is snowing hard and getting steadily touchier as snowfall rates increase and winds stay strong and sustained.
S2-3 snowfall rate for the duration of our day, skin tracks getting covered up in between laps. Surfaces closer to the exposed opening near Lake Mary Rd were stiffer and cracking up to 6 ft. 2 separate Size 1 soft slab avalanches in the steep cliffy cirque between the more planar supported treed slopes, and 1 intentional As-D1-SS on a steep roll at the top of the slope.
Good day for keeping things mellow and not being exposed to avalanche terrain.
