Toured from the Convict Lk TH up to the Hippy Trees. At the TH at 0830, temps were cold but the air was still. The cloudless morning heated up quickly despite an intermittent N wind.
In many exposed areas the snow surface was big glittery reflective plates. Dug a quick pit at 10400' on a NW aspect near the top of Hippy Trees on a tree-sheltered slope. HS=152cm. 110cm of F down to 1F hard snow, with a slightly softer (4F+ maybe) layer near the bottom of that part of the snowpack. Bottom 40cm were F-hard facets. Did a janky CT and stepped hard on the upper wall of the pit while filling it back in - no reactivity.
Skiing was great in the trees. Another party skied one of the E chutes off Mono Jim and reported good conditions.
