Dug a hasty pit at 8600' on a N facing open slope away from exposed obstacles like rocks & shrubs. HS 80cm, right-side up. F over 4F over 1 F to pencil at the base of the pack. Was somewhat surprised, seemed like the snowpack here only consisted of new snow from the past weekend's storm. Saw no signs of previous, recent, or current instability in this particular zone and on adjacent slopes.
