Skinned up the north side of Red Mountain from Aspen Springs, gaining the big north ridge at 8500ft. Snow along the ridge was wind affected until we got back into the trees at 9400ft. We dug a pit at 9500 ft. 155cm of snow, with 15cm of loose facets on the bottom. Compression test collapsed on the 9th hit from the elbow.
We continued up to about 10,000 ft (difficult trail breaking) where the trees start to thin and a wind slab started to developed, turned around, and followed lower angle slopes NNE back to the trailhead. Snow was good above 8,000ft. Below that the recent snow grew shallow on top of crusty rain affected snow, but was still decent riding.
