It was a beautiful day for skiing in the Aspendell zone today--sunny, mild temps, and not a hint of wind. Traveling solo, I went into the day with the goal of assessing conditions, particularly the distribution and reactivity of wind slabs, and, hopefully, getting in some good turns. I was prepared to turn around at the first sign of widespread and/or touchy wind slab but was pleasantly surprised to find the wind slab issue to be isolated and non-reactive on E-ENE aspects up to 40 degrees. Surface snow conditions ranged from loose dry snow in sheltered areas and gullies to 2-5 cm 4F-F crusts/slabs on E ridges/ribs, particularly above ~11,800'. Skiing conditions were superb.
