Skied the East Face of Gibbs today. It was calm and clear all day, except down low where fog is parked over Mono Lake. The first mile of Oil Plant Road (to the trailers) is easily driveable. The rest of the road approach has been driven by a snowcat and loader, but we didn't brave it. We observed wind effects on every aspect starting around 9400'. Ski crampons were handy above about 10,800. The top several hundred feet was particularly firm. The skiing was very variable; mostly crusts of varying strengths, with the occasional patch of pleasant soft snow. We saw no shooting cracks and heard no wumpfing or hollow-sounding snow.
