We toured on the northern edge of the San Joaquin ridge and down to the fire station west of June Lake. Here are a series of observations.
- Temperatures were warmer than expected and the forecast winds were chilly, but not as strong as in the forecast.
- Previous evidence of wind transport was present, but only isolated wind transport was observed from easterly winds.
- Surface snow conditions were soft, but not deep enough to shield the firmer layer beneath the most recent snowfall.
- We observed some small loose dry avalanches triggered by skiers in steep and unsupported terrain.
- Wind slab was not a problem we observed in the terrain despite the evidence of previous transport.
