We booted up a chute lookers left of Hammil, with no visible cracking or sloughing. Fresh snow was boot deep at the top. The top was firm and crusty. We skied that and went to Ship’s Prow. Winds turned to blustery at the top at 1:15. I descended in the middle of the chute over the boot pack and triggered a soft slab avalanche around 11200 ft. Driving my whippet into the firm surface bed below kept me from taking a ride below. The crown was 8- 10 inches high and propagated 30-40 ft across. The avalanche ran to the apron.
