Toured up the Fern Creek towards the top of the Devils Slide feature. Variable snow surface encountered throughout the up track with ample ghost tracks near tree line. On the ridge tops and the fetch to our recent prevailing high and extreme winds we found knife and pencil hard wind board that made for slick skinning. Stubborn cornices were observed on NE facing ridges, these included debris below.
Recent avalanche activity was observed on the devils slide with a large size D2 debris pile, as well as a large crown on a feature off of San Joaquin Mtn. Both look to have been naturally triggered mid storm.
The skiing quality varies greatly depending on what aspect I found myself on, and ranged from powder skiing to breakable wind board. We found plenty of wind loaded pockets as we skied back through the trees, the main instability observed were small cornices developed in our recent extreme wind events.
