Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured up to TJ Bowl from Lake Mary Road closure. Started early (545am). Snow conditions traveling to TJ Bowl were solid (and in many places pretty chopped up from hikers, old skin tracks, etc.). Based on several hand pit observations, the snow in the shady (Eastern portion of bowl) aspects of TJ Bowl was primarly a melt freeze crust (~5cm) over faceted snow (~10cm, see pic) over a 30+cm 4F hard layer (didn't dig to ground). Ski and boot crampons and ice axe were needed for ascent. Skied down around 9am due to time constraints. Sunnier areas (Western portion of bowl) demonstrated edgable crust, with some corn starting to develop even at this early hour. Given rapid transition, not sure I would have wanted to tour up TJ Bowl a lot later, but I would have liked to ski down later.
