Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured up into VA Lakes to check on new snow amounts, wind effects, and warming effects.  Solid 5" / 13cm of new light low density snow from yesterday on northerly aspects at 11,000', mostly ontop of firm crust.  Closer to 2" down below 10,000'.  Very small isolated pockets of wind drifted snow that were over 1ft deep, but no shooting cracks in these small deposits.  Greatest concern was minor shallow loose sloughing, both dry and wet depending on aspect, and both natural and human triggered.  See attached photos.  Relatively chilly day, despite full sunshine and blue skies.  Dry enjoyable dust on crust conditions on northerly aspects even at mid-afternoon.  Easterly aspects at this time had a refreezing surface crust.

*VA Lakes Rd is now completely plowed and open to the end (summer trailhead - thanks Rd crews!).
