Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured around Emerson Pass (12,000ft). 0630-1430

Air temp was below freezing until the afternoon.

Snow was highly variable with aspect and shade - firm windboard, breakable suncrust, some small patches of powder. No glopping thanks to the cooler temps. Generally pleasant touring conditions although one had to pay attention because frequently conditions changed from one turn to the next.

Snow depth generally <1m but also highly variable, abundant wind scour and deposit.  Hand pits at various locations all failed moderate to hard although patches of windboard failed easily. Pole probiing found no consistent layering. Rare but occaisional small scale whumpfing.

Cornices have formed on some north facing cliffs. Only saw a few rollerballs later in the day.

Corn developing on south facing aspects below 11,000.
