The day dawned warm and just got colder as things went along. Winds shifting to the East and North probably accelerated this trend. On the Sherwin Ridge at 10,000 feet the wind was Light gusting Moderate though no snow was being transported.
Surface conditions were variable on the main face of the Sherwins with more wind board and breakable crust than soft snow on the upper half. The conditions improved on the lower half of the face especially with less exposure to the wind.
