Got out to Bishop Creek on Valentines Day and dug to the ground. While we are in this mid-winter lull in snowfall I am working on a series of profiles to evaluate the entire sonwpack. This profile was at 10,100′ in a nearly flat meadow with a slight N aspect and limited wind influence. The most useful detail for current conditions is the hardness, grain type and grain size for layers in the upper 40cm. In other terrain features the faceted grains and rounded faceted grains are sandwicked between wind slabs / crusts.
