Virginia Lakes observation: Today we toured into the Virginia Lakes area to see if southern aspects were starting to change with the warming conditions. Overnight, temperatures stayed above freezing and the forecast called for temperatures in the 40’s-50’s. The Virginia Lakes snotel site positioned at 9400 ft reached 51 degrees at noon today. Southern aspects have changed dramatically in the past few days and snow surfaces have softened up. Various surface conditions exist on southern aspects as we enter a spring-like cycle in the snowpack. We kept a close eye on loose wet movement but did not get any roller balls or pinwheels on various ski cuts.
