Broke trail to the Sherwins this morning from Mill City. Skied the hose area. Hand shear tests above rain elevation in trees at 30/35 degrees showed decent right side up snow pack. Was unable to break the cornice at the top to trigger anything. Biggest concern was wind loading at the summit. Skied in from ridge away from cornice and was stable. Skiing was variable due to different storm layers with some good turns. 3/4 way down we the hit the rain crust with about a foot of snow on it. Snow was sluffing D1 but no signs of slab down low yet. I’m curious how the new storm layer will interact with the rain crust layer at lower elevations.
