Encountered cracking of this soft slab off the skin track about halfway up Mammoth Knolls, at an elevation of 8250'. The slope angle at the site of cracking was 30 degrees. The soft, fist hard slab was sitting on top of a sun crust, which is present all across the south aspect on the knoll, at all elevations. We were touring at about 10 AM, and at that point, there was very little accumulation of new snow (1-2 inches), except in isolated pockets on the lower part of the knoll, where more snow was present (around 5-7 inches). Saw cracking and gave the slope a stomp, leading to the cracking in this photo.
