Toured in the upper McGee, Birch Creek and Longley Creek zones on E, SE and NE aspects from 8400 to 12600. Low elevation warm day out there in the hills.
SE aspects were already softening at 8am.
Upper elevation sheltered N aspects still have cold, firm faceted snow, enough to be edgeable but still slide for life in terrain of consequence.
The biggest headline is the Buttermilk Rd conditions: it is rough, slow going to the bouldering parking lots, a Subaru would feel a bit under-equipped unless you hate your car. Please don’t drive through the brush to save yourself a mile of walking on an easy dirt road to snow, the impacts from. Just a handful of people doing this are ugly and will take a lot of effort to restore.
